𝐂𝐌𝐔 – 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐂𝐌𝐔-𝐂𝐓𝐄) 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦

City of Malabon University College of Teacher Education (CMU-CTE) made history with its inaugural academic forum at the Malabon City Amphitheater on April 6, 2024. Themed ‘𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗧𝗘 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀,’ the event was a resounding success, thanks to the unwavering support of our esteemed University President, Dr. Glen D.V. De Leon, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Willam DC Enrique, Counselor Nadja Vicencio, and our City Mayor and Chairman of the Board of Regents, Hon. Jeannie Sandoval.

The forum commenced with 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗘. 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮, a Doctor of Education and Humanities and owner of Carl Balita Review Center (CBRC), delivering a keynote address on the development of education and the role of AI in learning. His insights highlighted the importance of utilizing AI in the digital environment to adapt to new ways of working and new occupations, preparing future educators for the evolving landscape of education. Dr. Balita also shared a message for the future educators from City of Malabon University on his Facebook page, stating, “𝘉𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘻 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘺 𝘤𝘶𝘱, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦”, emphasizing the importance of self-care and continuous personal growth in the teaching profession.

Following Dr. Balita, 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝘆. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗡𝗼𝗲𝗹 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮, a regular resource person of the House of Representatives and Senate Committees on Education, shared insightful cases to enhance the assessment skills of CTE students. His discussion on Balancing Child Protection and the Rights of Schools to Enforce Student Discipline provided a real-world context for future educators to understand the complexities of managing student behavior while upholding their rights. At the conclusion of his lecture, Atty. Estrada left the audience with a poignant quote: “I𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘶𝘱,” encouraging reflection on the importance of instilling respect in students from a young age.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧. 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘁𝗲, City Administrator and concurrent head of the City Housing and Urban Development Department, discussed Promoting Professional Growth and Collaboration through Engaging Teachers in Research. He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and collaboration among educators, particularly noting its practice within the CTE department at City of Malabon University. This integration of research for educators is already being emphasized and practiced within the department, reflecting the institution’s commitment to professional development.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝗶𝗱𝘆𝗮 𝗕. 𝗟𝗶𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴, Affiliate Professor at Philippine Normal University and Member of the CHED Technical Panel in Filipino provided insights into the role of teachers in teaching based on the new MATATAG curriculum. She emphasized the need for educators to adapt their teaching methods to meet the demands of the new curriculum, ensuring that students receive a quality education that prepares them for the future.

Lastly, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗮, Ph.D holder at the age of 33 and Quezon City’s Champion Educator of Filipino Language Instruction discussed unpacking in learning, providing a fresh perspective on education packages and learning packets. By unpacking these concepts, educators can better understand the content and deliver it more effectively to their students, ensuring a more meaningful learning experience.

The forum concluded with 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗠. 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, expressing pride in the overwhelming student participation and the support of university administrators, program chairs (𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗟𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗰𝗼) faculty, non-teaching personnel, and the ROTC unit. At the end of his speech, he emphasized the importance of moral character in teaching by sharing his famous statement with the CTE students, “𝙋𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙞𝙣 𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙖𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙞.”
